The Full 90 with Mike Avery

90 word reflections on coaching. (Not as easy as it sounds, but neither is coaching.)

REGULAR TIME (90):

90 words on "transition"...

Coaches understand that we must train those moments between possession and defending.

Games are won or lost in transition, we’ve all seen that.

But, are we also embracing transition off the field?

For our players, for our teams - for ourselves?

If we view transition as merely a passageway between things, a holding place until change happens, we are missing something valuable.

Transition is a distinct space.

Transition is the season between seasons.

A season for reinvention.

A season for imagination.

A season for creativity.

Transition is a gift.

Embrace it.

EXTRA TIME (90+):

William Bridges, Author

Managing Transitions

Diego "El Cholo" Simeone, Manager, Atletico Madrid

We are living in a culture entirely hypnotized by the illusion of time, in which the so-called present moment is left as nothing but an infinitesimal hairline between a causative past and an absorbingly important future. We have no present. Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience. We are therefore out of touch with reality.

- Alan Watts, British writer and speaker
